Banner v9 Upgrade – Implementation project

The Banner v9 Upgrade – Implementation project has kicked a number of goals since the last project update.

What have we achieved?

The Banner vendor, in conjunction with their development partner, has delivered the first major instalment of transformed Banner forms i.e. existing Banner forms that have been converted to new technology. The Division of Student Administration – Innovations and Systems team has commenced testing these forms, and initial feedback is that they are reasonably robust, with a number of forms having already passed testing.

In addition, a Quality Assurance (QA) environment has been successfully established. Work on this environment was completed ahead of schedule and without any major unexpected hiccups. This is an excellent outcome for the project and can be attributed to the hard work and diligence displayed by the core project team, along with first rate support from DIT’s Systems team who have worked closely with the project team to reinforce the project since its inception.

A special mention and thank you to David Martin and Byron Taylor for their out of hours contribution, and management of a vendor who has been challenging to work with at times!

Where to next?

Establishment of a QA environment is the first step towards readying ourselves for User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and training, and it is reassuring to see significant progress in this area. Every step takes us closer to achieving the key objectives of the Banner v9 Upgrade – Implementation project, which aim to improve CSU operations and support for students and staff by:

  • delivering the end to end technical upgrade
  • transforming existing custom forms to the new technology
  • managing the overall Organisation Change Management (OCM) aspect of the project using the Prosci ADKAR framework
  • ensuring operational staff receive appropriate training and support throughout the upgrade
  • providing frequent and informative communications and updates to the business community.

The Banner v9 Upgrade – Implementation project team look forward to providing updates on progress as the project advances towards its go-live, and we remain focused on a successful upgrade and de-customisation of the current Banner student and finance systems.
