Integrating Banner with Study Group’s StudyGlobal system

  • by Heather Fielding
  • Posted on June 19, 2020July 20, 2020

The Study Group Integration project was a joint venture between Charles Sturt University and our partner Study Group.

Together, Charles Sturt and Study Group deliver courses for international students at the Charles Sturt Study Centres in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Initiated and funded by Study Group, the project has streamlined the sharing of data between the two organisations.

The integration went live on 4 May 2020.

Project outcomes

The integration transfers data automatically from StudyGroup’s StudyGlobal system to Banner, and back again:

  • StudyGlobal sends course enrolment data to Banner.
  • For active Study Group students, relevant data updates are sent from Banner to StudyGlobal.

This direct transfer eliminates the need for Study Group staff to enter data manually into both StudyGlobal and Banner Web Remote Campus. As a result, Study Group will see significant cost savings on enrolments processing and ongoing data management.

Additionally, a new Fees Service provides Study Group with on-demand, up-to-date information for subject fees.

Subject fees are no longer ‘grandfathered’ for Study Group students. This means they are subject to change throughout the duration of a course. The Fees Service enables Study Group to make accurate payment of commission to their agents.

Benefits for Charles Sturt

While the project was driven primarily by Study Group’s needs, Charles Sturt will see benefits too:

  • Better service to our Study Centre students:
With Banner as the single source of truth for student data, we can be confident that student-facing staff at the Study Centres will have access to data that is consistent, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Better compliance and less work for Charles Sturt staff:
Improved data validation rules for course enrolments compared with Banner Web Remote Campus will reduce the volume of data integrity issues that need follow up and improve compliance.
  • Stronger relationship:
The integration makes it easier for Study Group to do business with Charles Sturt, strengthening our business relationship and enhancing our reputation.

As an added benefit, the functional and technical work completed on the project is already being used in future Banner integration solutions.
