The Online Examinations project is implementing an online examination platform. The platform will provide a stramlined and integrated workflow, enhancing the student and staff experience. The activity will provide for end of session examinations and key workflows in: authoring, quality assurance, marking, moderation and exam delivery.
In 2021 several online exam vendors were contacted via a request for information process. Three vendors took part in a three-hour demonstration of their platform. Evaluation was by a panel of stakeholders with representation across faculty and divisions. Two vendors (Cirrus Assessment and Better Examinations) then participated in a ‘pilot’. Cirrus Assessment is the preferred vendor after critical review and evaluation of functional and non-functional requirements, student feedback, and cost data.
The benefits this project will bring to the University:
- Improved student experience with one portal and allowing flexibility, consistency, and auditability
- Increased exam security and integrity with increased compliance
- Improved tools and analytics for Academic staff
- Sustainability with reduction in consumables and transportation
- Cost savings over traditional paper-based exams.
The Project team is currently at the planning phase and is undertaking a phased ‘rollout’ approach to platform implementation and uptake. Micro-sessions will be targeted first. Availability to major sessions will begin with the 202290 session.
Design workshops have commenced with the vendor and completion of the project is expected by December 2022.
