The Graduate Planning System (GPS) is currently used to:
- display complex course structures tailored to the individual student
- provide details of outstanding course requirements, subject availability and pre-requisite requirements
- enable independent enrolment online and planning future enrolment
- facilitate discussions with course advisors where needed.
Why do we need this upgrade?
The last Charles Sturt upgrade of GPS was completed in early 2017 and is now five versions behind the current release. This means that customer support for Charles Sturt’s current version is now limited. Any support requests are returned with a recommendation to upgrade.
This upgrade will bring GPS into line with the upgraded Banner and Banner Document Management applications from both a technology and look and feel perspective.
We are also in the early stages of rolling out GPS to our partner Study Group Australia (SGA). Charles Sturt is working with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) on conditions imposed with a reduced registration period which involve SGA. Rolling out GPS will provide further governance on our combined graduation process.
Charles Sturt was involved in developing several aspects of this GPS upgrade to meet southern hemisphere student requirements in partnership with Ellucian. Competing priorities and waiting for new particular functionality within GPS have delayed the upgrade.
What are the expected benefits?
- Tailored user experience for students, with new innovative dashboards delivering a more modern look and feel.
- Improved mobile phone compatibility to enhance software accessibility.
- The delivery of new tools to enable Charles Sturt’s styling and localisation of GPS. This will ease the maintenance and impost of this and future releases of the software.
- An entirely web-based application – less reliance on desktop installation. This includes a reduction in the need to restart the application to activate changes.
- Process improvements in the delivered functionality to assist both staff and students.
We expect that these major improvements in GPS will increase user satisfaction.
This upgrade will provide Charles Sturt with a sector leading innovative tool for enrolment planning, advising students, and assessing graduation eligibility.
