2019/20 Technology Initiatives Expression of Interest

2019/20 Technology Initiatives round is open – we want to hear your ideas now!

At Microsoft there are lots of brilliant ideas but the image is that they all come from the top – I’m afraid that’s not quite right.

The majority of our Technology Initiatives that lead to significant new system implementations and process improvements come from ideas submitted by university staff.

The new Technology Initiatives (TI) round is now open and the Technology Governance Committee (TGC) is inviting staff to submit suggestions for new initiatives to be funded in 2019/20.

The TI portfolio consists of major IT related projects that receive significant annual funding and support from the university executive. These projects support the University Strategy, with an aim to innovate, improve processes or ensure regulatory compliance across many areas of the university, including Research, Learning & Teaching and our core administration activities.

Recent projects include:

  • Extended IT Support – technology support for students has been extended outside standard hours and is now available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Special Considerations Workflow – the process associated with the submission and management of special consideration requests has been automated and streamlined, resulting in a significant reduction in the time taken for requests to be processed.
  • Redevelopment of the Subject Outline system – this has delivered an enhanced functionally-rich platform.

Current projects include:

If you intend to submit an initiative, please register your interest by contacting John Smith – Senior Manager, IT Project Portfolio – as soon possible, and prior to Friday 28 June. This ensures that appropriate staff from the Division of Information Technology can be allocated to support you with the preparation of your initiative. It also provides the opportunity for the TGC to review concepts and provide feedback to assist in the refinement of detailed initiatives prior to final submission.

The closing date for formal submissions is 5pm Friday 20 September 2019. The TGC will meet on 18 October 2019 to consider submissions, with funding decisions expected soon after.

For more information about the TI new initiatives process, including a timeline of key dates, go to the Technology Initiatives web page or contact John Smith on 19783.

Anyone can have a brilliant idea – harnessing these ideas is the key to our success!
