Warning – EOFY is a prime time for phishing!

With the end of financial year fast approaching, cyber criminals are targeting CSU staff with finance-related phishing scams.

Staff working in a financial, HR, invoicing or executive capacity are especially likely to be targeted by phishing emails related to invoice payment or banking details changed.

Please take time to examine who an email is from. If it appears to come from another staff member, ensure the sender’s email address matches their CSU email address.

If a sender’s email address appears to be valid but the message is unusual, or asks you to do something you would not normally do, confirm that the sender is who they claim to be – this could be a phone call or a Skype message to substantiate the request.

Remember not to click on links or open attachments from emails that you were not expecting, or emails that seem to be uncharacteristic of a known sender.

Some of the tell-tale signs that the email is a phishing scam are:

  • Poor quality logos
  • Incorrect spelling
  • Grammatical errors
  • Formatting errors
