Banner v9 Upgrade – Implementation project – June update

The Banner v9 Upgrade – Implementation project is edging steadily closer to its scheduled go-live, which is set to take place over the Labour Day long weekend, Friday 4 October through Monday 7 October.

Staff from the Division of Student Administration and the Division of Finance are working to complete testing of newly transformed Banner forms, with a focus on ensuring the forms are sufficiently robust and fit for purpose.

These transformed forms existed in the older version of Banner, but they have now been updated to new technology, with a look and feel that is modernised and supported in the new Banner v9 version.

What have we achieved?

The Banner vendor, working in conjunction with their development partner, has now delivered over 80% of the forms that were submitted for transformation. Close to 70% of these have passed testing and been signed off by the business. Approximately 13% of forms have been passed back to the developer for a fix or additional development work.

The final round of forms is scheduled for delivery in June, and we hope to have all forms tested and validated by the end of the month.

Progress to date is overwhelmingly positive and sets the project up for a thorough round of end to end ‘User Acceptance Testing’ (UAT), which is to be conducted in parallel with business training on the updated system.

Where to next?

Our focus starts to shift towards the UAT and training phases of the project.

The project team expects to begin readying the development and ‘Quality Assurance’ environments for these next phases in early to mid-July. A key activity here will be the cutover of system integrations from the old Banner development and QA environments to the newly established development and QA environments – see the scheduled dates below:

  • Banner v8 (Bv8) Devel on Monday 1 July
  • Banner v8 QA on Monday 15 July

If you are involved in or aware of any project or Business As Usual activities that may be impacted, please reach out directly to Mike Charles – mcharles@csu.edu.au.

We will be delivering training to ensure that users are familiar with the new system, the changes and new features available – watch this space for more information.

It is exciting to see this project shift closer to the delivery of a high value upgrade that will provide a solid base for additional enhancements and value-add activities.
